"The independence of judges once destroyed, the Constitution is gone; it is a dead letter."
-Speech by Thomas Jefferson at the New York City Bar Association [February 1802]
The U.S. Constitutional Council would be charged with initial vetting of all candidates for judgeships and for all nominations of candidates to fill roles as U.S. judges; and ensure that the judiciary functions in a proper manner.
Remarks
The Senate will continue to confirm or deny all judicial nominations, in accordance with the Constitution. In the future judges will be judged for who they are and their capabilities, not for who nominated them or why.
The Council shall ensure that judges comply with the Code of Conduct for United States Judges; and shall discipline judges when they fail to do so, or when they render obviously unjust or politically biased decisions.[1]
